Dr Ehsan Goli
Farsi-speaking Clinical Psychologist in the UK
I am Dr Ehsan Goli, an HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist. My private practice is psychoanalytic, and I work with adults in Persian (Farsi), English and Kurdish.
Psychoanalytic work in Persian
Choosing the language of sessions can matter even when you are fluent in English. A memory, a family expression or an account of a difficult experience may be easier to speak about in Persian. At other times, a word in another language may be the one you want to use.
The work follows what you bring to the sessions: present difficulties, relationships, memories and experiences that return in different forms. My approach is informed by Lacanian psychoanalysis, with attention to how you speak about these experiences and to the questions that arise in the course of speaking. You can read more about psychoanalytic work and what happens in a session.
Migration, language and cultural displacement
Moving between countries and languages can affect family relationships, work and a sense of belonging. Distance from people and places, changes in social position, or expectations across different cultural settings may be relevant to what you want to discuss.
I approach these matters through your own account, without assuming that migration or cultural displacement explains your difficulties, or that speaking the same language means having the same experience. Their significance is considered in the context of your particular history, relationships and circumstances.
Online sessions and meeting in person
Online sessions are available for adults in the UK where professionally and clinically appropriate. We discuss your location, privacy for sessions and the relevant professional and insurance arrangements before agreeing to work together.
Limited in-person work may be available by prior arrangement in West Yorkshire. Please mention in your enquiry if you would prefer to meet in person, so that we can discuss availability.
An initial consultation
You can contact me in Persian, English or Kurdish. The initial consultation gives us time to discuss what has brought you to seek help, what you are looking for and whether it would be appropriate to continue. We also discuss the language of sessions, frequency, fees and practical arrangements.
Fees are agreed individually. Further information about the arrangements for sessions is available in Terms, Fees & Cancellation.
