Teaching, seminars and clinical training

I teach Freud and Lacan, with attention to the relationship between psychoanalytic concepts and clinical practice. Seminars may be organised around a close reading of a text or a specific question from clinical practice.

A programme can introduce a psychoanalytic approach, develop an area of theory or examine questions arising in the work of an experienced group. Bespoke courses are designed around the participants’ interests and needs; the level and emphasis are adapted to their experience.

Work with clinical teams can be based on their current cases, professional roles and organisational setting. Training provides time to examine the reasoning behind clinical decisions and develop a shared understanding of the work.

Topics may include psychological formulation, the therapeutic relationship, personality and relational difficulties, risk formulation, reflective practice, multidisciplinary working, and clinical work in rehabilitation or neuropsychiatric settings.

For a reading seminar, we can agree a text or a sequence of papers in advance. Sessions combine close reading, explanation of the concepts and discussion of their clinical implications. A longer programme allows the group to return to difficult passages as its understanding develops.

For a clinical workshop, the starting point is the question the team needs to address. We establish the participants’ roles, existing knowledge and intended use of the material, then agree a format that leaves time for discussion. Where clinical material is used, confidentiality arrangements are agreed beforehand.

Teaching is available in English or Persian. Formats include one-off seminars, workshops, short courses, reading groups and reflective-practice sessions. Content and practical arrangements are agreed in relation to the audience, subject and time available.
